The Solid Waste Division is responsible for the collection of commercial and residential trash within the City limits of Garden City. The Division also provides trash service for special events throughout the year.
The Solid Waste offices are located at 125 JC Street. Residents desiring to report container damage, graffiti on containers, request additional service, or discuss concerns about their services should call the Solid Waste Division at 620-276-1278 between the hours of 7 am and 4 pm, Monday through Friday. After-hours emergency calls should be directed to the Garden City Police Dispatcher at 620-276-1300.
Service Fees
Residential / Multiple Family
The monthly residential fee for trash collection, hauling, and disposal is $26 per month. This fee is included in the monthly utility bill received by residents. Residential units requesting additional individual poly-karts (roll-out trash containers) will be charged an additional fee of $13 per month per each additional container.
Commercial
The monthly commercial fee for trash collection, hauling, and disposal is $19.25 per month per cubic yard collected weekly. The schedule of charges is as follows:
Prohibited Materials
The following materials are prohibited from being placed in City trash containers:
- All building contractor materials
- All household hazardous waste liquids (paints, oil, petroleum, etc.)
- Ashes (including fireplace ashes)
- All medical service waste generated through human or animal care through inpatient or outpatient services
- All unprocessed animal matter
- All wash rack residue, earth, grass from commercial or owner power raking, sod, tree trimmings greater than two inches diameter or longer than four feet, concrete, and bricks
- All concrete
