Chief Courtney Prewitt began his career with the Garden City Police Department in May 1999 and was appointed as Chief of Police in March 2021. Chief Prewitt is the fifth Chief of Police appointed within the Garden City Police Department. Chief Prewitt has served in the positions of Field Training Officer, Master Patrol Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Community Response Division Sergeant, Senior Sergeant, and Patrol Captain. Chief Prewitt has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Law Enforcement from Washburn University and is a graduate of the Kansas Certified Public Manager program.
