Training

All non-certified officers will attend the basic academy at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center near Hutchinson, Kansas for fourteen (14) weeks (560 hours). There the cadets learn countless lessons and certifications that they are able to apply to the streets of Kansas when they graduate.

Officers then undergo an extensive training program of approximately twelve (12) additional weeks with the Garden City Police Department prior to being released as a solo officer.

Kansas law enforcement officers are required to obtain forty (40) hours annually of additional training. This is accomplished through in-service training conducted and provided by department personnel, as well as by specialized training throughout the United States.
